Why is he famous?
Marc Coma i Camps, is a rally motorcycle rider. Now, with only 34 years old, he has got an incredible history: He won the Dakar Rally in 2006, 2009 and 2011 riding a KTM motorcycle. He is also the World Champion in the Rallies Cross Country Motorcycles Tournament in 2005, 2006 and 2007, making him one of the best athletes in the country.
When he began to be interested for the bikes?
He was born on 7th October 1976 in Avià, Barcelona and soon he started in the motorcycle through the influence of his family. Because his father, Ricard Coma, won fifth place in the Spain of Motocross Championship as a senior and his uncle got into a Montesa Cota 348 with only 8 years old.
When he began to win titles?
In 1995 Spain proclaimed Junior champion in more than 175 cc, with a KTM 250.
At 18 Coma though clear that racing circuit were not for him and decides to opt definitively for the "enduro".
But in 2002, thanks to a motorcycle built by former rally driver Carlos Sotelo, when Marc Coma participate in the Arras-Madrid-Dakar. Although unable to finish the race, the Dakar fever had already taken over this and now get Spaniard to win would be their main objective.
